How to Get a Part-Time Job with Friends

You get a part-time job with friends by picking one hourly opening and sending a single application for your group. Part time jobs with friends on SameShift work that way: you apply for jobs with friends as a crew, or you apply on your own. The employer reviews each person and decides who to interview and hire.

Why working with friends helps

You already know the people on the shift, so planning the ride and the hours starts from a shared posting. One application covers the group. Each person is still reviewed on their own, and applying together does not mean everyone is hired.

Why work with friends? What research says

This research is about workplace friendships in general; SameShift is putting it to work for people starting new jobs.

Which hourly jobs a group can apply for

Jobs you can get with friends are hourly roles a shop can review as a group. Shops that staff a shift with more than one person often hire for restaurants, cafes, retail, seasonal work, and events. A posting has to be open, and the employer still chooses who to hire.

Interview together

Crews can interview together when the employer wants to meet the group. The employer still decides on each person.

Before you reply, agree on a time everyone can attend. Arrive together, and let each person answer for themselves. Be ready to say which days and hours you can work. The interview guide covers tips, sample answers, what to wear and bring, and a thank-you note.

If only one of you gets hired

The person who is hired can take the job. Everyone else can apply to another opening, as a smaller crew or on their own. A no to one person is not a no to the rest of the group.

Applying on your own works too

A crew is optional. Every job has an apply-on-your-own option. You can look at the same open jobs, read the pay, and send your own application.
